Sezzy's Series of Unfortunate Events

My week last week was full of mishaps and misadventures.

Unfortunately, we had a car accident on the way to Big White. Olga was driving and the car rolled twice and is pretty poked. It was pitch black, snowing and we really had no idea where we were.

Fortunately, neither of us was hurt. Eventually a tow truck came, took us to Kelowna and we took a $120 taxi on to Big White on the advice of the Insurance representatives.

Unfortunately, on my way home from work I skidded over (it was raining of course) and grazed and bruised both my knees. I was wearing a skirt and I tore my stockings and had to walk home with bare bleeding knees.

Fortunately, I didn't cry. It was embarrassing enough walking down the street at peak time with bleeding knees, it would've been hideous to also be crying.

Unfortunately, I only had time to shove a bandage on it before racing out the door. When I got home later and had a shower I realised there was gravel stuck in the wound. Not being good with blood and guts, I fainted as I was trying to pick it out.

Fortunately, I could feel myself going so I sat down in the shower and out of the way of the water.

And that my lovelies, brings me to the end of my update. I'm spending every weekend for the next few weeks in Whistler, so I probably won't be updating the blog for a few weeks. I'm going to Banff in February for Mikey and Lorelli's wedding, so will be sure to send through pics of that.

xx Loving and missing you

Big White

I work with a Ukranian woman, called Olga. We set off for a weekend at Big White, about five hours drive into the interior and supposedly, according to Canadians, the best snow.

Well they were absolutely right. I've never been anywhere like it. Light, puffy, cotton-candy snow, mountains as far as the eye can see, no queues and a whole lot of of Australians. An Aussie bought Big White and another neighbouring mountain for a paltry 7 million or so each a few years ago. He's turned them into great resort towns and recruits loads of Aussies to work there every season.

We had an enormous hotel room that looked down into the snow covered village. It was so peaceful.

Bye My Pies

Inevitably, Pies had to return to NZ to go back to work and continue to earn the money he used to spoil me rotten while he was here. It was sad. But we've done it before and know it's okay.

This sums up the difference between him and I:

To get to the airport he had ordered a stretch limousine. It's not actually as ridiculous as it sounds because here they are fairly comparable to taxis. Still, we felt like rock stars (in a limo that the driver assured us has been used by real rock stars) and it was a smooth and quick journey.

After I dropped Pies off I took the bus home. It cost me $3.25, took nearly four times as long as the trip out, required three changes and 25 minutes of standing in the freezing cold.

That plopped me right back into my normal life.

Here we are in the limo, trying to look the part...and failing pretty miserably.

Sleeping in Seattle

I LOVE Seattle. Pies and I decided to go there for his last weekend over here. The first night we decided to stay in one of the Tablet Hotels - the Ace Hotel. Tablet Hotels are pretty much the Hip Hotels worldwide. Usually they're way out of our price range, but we found a unique one that was a budget hotel. It was so stylie. The bathrooms were separate to the rooms, which I know would drive most people mad, but it really wasn't too bad...and the rooms were really cool and they put on a scrummy free brekkie. It's hard to describe, it really was very hip!

The next night we basked in the luxurious glory of the Grande Hyatt Seattle. Thanks to all the ads Pies makes and earns Hyatt points for. I'm not sure whether it was because Pies is a points member, or whether it was because he ticked the 'honeymooners' box (naughty monkey) when he booked online, but we were treated like royalty. We were given a gorgeous corner suite with a view of the Pike Place fish market and the Sky Needle. We had access to the members lounge with free breakfast and snacks all day long and happy hour cheeses and treats, we returned to our room to find chocolate dipped strawberries and a free bottle of lovely wine. It was bliss!

It was a huge weekend because the Seahawks, the local football team, won the first final game in something like 20 years. They are playing in the Superbowl final this Sunday.

Otherwise, we ate, shopped, tried to guess where Frasier lived, and Pearl Jam and Nirvana played and where Tom Hanks pined for Meg Ryan. I was sad to leave.

Whistler...for a change

I know you're probably getting sick of pics of Pies and I doing nothing much on the mountain, with huge helmet heads. But, we went for another weekend to Whistler and had a great time. We went to Blackcomb this time and did an amazing run down the Blackcomb glacier. Fresh powder, unbelievable views and a lovely big open bowl. As you can see I was pretty excited by it all!

Sadly, I'm not sure even my fancy Lumix camera does it justice.

Do we know these people?

One of the New Year's resolutions was to start using the pool in my building regulary (this is one of the ones I've already failed at). So I made Pies come and buy goggles with me. Unfortunately, given the evidence above, I'm not sure we'd be allowed to enter a public area looking like this. So really, it's not my fault I didn't keep that New Year's resolution.

Housekeeping

No. 1 Some of you will notice that I've taken my personal details off my blog. There was a news story on tele a couple of weeks ago that said there was a growing trend for pervy old men to look up young girls' blogs and stalk them. I know I don't quite fit into the young girl category, but I became a bit paranoid. So pervy old men, if you're watching, I hope you like my blog. Please don't ever contact me, okay. Thanks.

No. 2 Does anybody know how to resolve this, for future reference. I bought some fish. Enough for two dinners. I froze it. When I came to cook it I realised I only wanted to cook half of it. But it was frozen solid. I tried to smash it apart. So I'm cooking it as I write in one big frozen glob. It is burning on the outside and frozen in the middle. I fear it is too late to stick it in the microwave to defrost now. Any hints?

Happy New Year

Happy New year to you all!!! I know the holidays seem like a lifetime ago now but I have finally worked up the enthusiasm to update the blog. Like most things, it's very exciting to do in the beginning (and while you have no job and all day to fill) and becomes a bit of a chore after a while. I've been feeling bad because lots of people have been asking me for an update, then I get an email from Debbo today that praises me for being so up to date!

I'm going to have to do this in stints.

I had New Year's Eve at Whistler with Deb S and Pies. We had some amazing days on the mountain and a lovely, relaxed dinner and evening together. So with great company, great snow and clear runs due to that fact the most people sleep in on New Year's Day, we had a fabulous start to the new year.

I decided to split my resolutions into categories because I have so many this year. I think I can quite safely say that I have already broken them all.
